Hi - My name is Sue Rowley. I was introduced to patchwork and quilting some time last century by Janice Gunner and after dabbling in a wide variety of craft classes it's the only hobby I have ever taken up which has stood the test of time.
I should have (and will encourage others to) included a photo of myself, but the only spare one I have is a passport photograph and I'm sure you all know the joke "if you look like your passport photo you're too ill to travel". So I'll spare you.
After taking City & Guilds Part I with Janice, and completing Part II with Barbara Weeks, I spent several years teaching beginners patchwork and quilting part time in Waltham Forest, Hackney and also City & Guilds Part I to the ladies of the Women's Institute at Chelmsford, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed. In addition, I taught one day workshops to a variety of local groups and quilt shops. Although I loved the teaching, as most people know, for most it doesn't pay the rent - and 6 years ago I went back to work full time as a legal secretary in the City. So now I have the money to buy all the lovely fabrics on offer, but I don't have the time to do much sewing. In fact, putting together some photographs for this page it's quite depressing to realise how little I have actually done!
Because I didn't have much spare time and missed going to workshops, I started taking online courses at Quilt University, and although I have added to my UFOs I have thoroughly enjoyed all those I have done.
I like to have more than one project on a go at the same time, that way if I stall on one project, I can turn to another. I hate working to deadlines!
This is one of the projects currently on my design wall. It's from a Quilt University class called "Flower Power" by Susan Brittingham. Techquique is bonded applique. Fabrics are a combination of hand-dyed and purchased. It's almost finished but I need to add lots of spots to it! As I seem to have run out of space, you can see more of my work in here.
